The Only Trigger Lock to Pass U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Tests
February 9, 2001 (INB) -- The USCPSC released a report on 2/8/01 disclosing gun lock safety test results. A total of 32 gun locks were tested. 16 of the locks tested were trigger locks, while 16 were cable locks. The CPSC announced that out of the trigger locks tested, only one trigger lock passed their test. Though the commission decided not to disclose the name of the company or brand of lock that passed their test, Adam Weinraub of Pro-Lok http://www.pro-lok.com is not so shy. "I am proud to announce that the Pro-Lok GL200 trigger lock was the only trigger lock to pass the CPSC test."

Weinraub believes there is much to be done to improve trigger locks on the market today. He points to the CPSC's test results as confirmation. "Regardless, I am excited that my company's hard work produced the only trigger lock to pass all three tests conducted by the CPSC."

A small manufacturer, Pro-Lok is relatively unknown to the firearms industry or the national media. Weinraub decided to release his company's identity as well as general information about Pro-Lok and its gun locks. He insists that the company is committed to using the CPSC's test results to continue improving their products even further.

Weinraub also categorized problems with many existing gun locks, such as:

Instant access was not provided for.
We designed our GL100 lock to provide an instant access option.  This option can be used while you are at home and have the firearm in your control.  This feature will encourage many gun owners to use our lock who normally would not use any protection.  It was very important to us to take steps in preventing a small child from removing the lock easily if the gun was found unattended.

Inexpensive or cheap materials used in construction
Many locks are constructed 100% of plastic and/or die cast material.  Our GL100 provides the use of a steel locking post mechanism.  Our GL 200 utilizes a unique deadbolt design.  Both locks are supplied with steel rubber coated pins.

They could be wiggled or rocked apart.
Many locks can easily be wiggled or rocked apart.  With the lock in your hands, ratchet the two halves together several clicks (locked).  Hold 1 half/side of the lock in one hand and the other half in your other hand.  Rock and wiggle the lock while pulling the two halves.  We have found that most trigger locks will come apart or open easily.

Our GL100 lock features a special steel mechanism that includes bushings.  Our GL200 offers our unique patent pending “deadbolt design”.  These exclusive designs offer additional protection from this “wiggle flaw”.

They would fall apart if dropped
This flaw has been witnessed in demonstrations and testing.  This is a result in design and material use.  We believe that our designs are better than any other trigger lock on the market.

Section D-02 (pg 01)

A child who found the key to the lock had instant access.
Many gun owners keep the key to the lock close to the gun or in the same drawer.  This is not recommended.  Regardless of where the key is kept, if the key is found, our GL100 offers an additional security level in the event a key is found.  This extra level may be the difference between a child having access or not having access to the gun.

They did not prevent a child from taking the gun outside to play with.
Most tragedies occur when a child takes the gun outside to play with, takes the gun to school or to show off to friends.  The use of our optional cable feature allows you to secure the firearm to a stationary object.  This discourages the child from removing the gun to play with as well as finding tools for removal attempts.

They did not prevent theft.
The optional cable feature prevents the theft of the firearm from your home.

They did not provide a means of customizing the lock to the gun.
One size does not fit all.  No lock can fit all guns or is perfect for all guns.  Our removable steel (rubber coated) pin allow the user to position the pins or customize the lock to fit their specific gun in most cases.

Guns with solid triggers were a very real and potential danger.
Many demonstrations have shown that locks that can be moved around on the gun can cause the gun to discharge.  This is especially true if the gun has a solid trigger design.  Most locks have one locking post.  The post is designed to fit behind the trigger, preventing it from being depressed.

If the gun has a solid trigger design, the locking post must be placed in front of the trigger.  If the lock can be mover around on the gun, the locking post can depress the trigger, firing the gun if a round was left accidentally in the chamber.  Our steel pins, properly placed on both sides of the trigger guard prevent this accident from occurring.  If there are steel pins on both sides of the trigger guard, the lock is restricted from moving enough to depress the trigger.

Thick bodied guns were difficult to accommodate.
Some thick-bodied guns are to thick for many gun locks.  We have lengthened our locking post to accommodate most guns, thick and thin bodied.

Pro-Lok's GL100 gun lock addresses all these concerns and offers three levels of security. For instance, Level 1 is referred to as the 'instant access level.' While the lock can be opened very quickly and easily at this level when the user has knowledge of the 'special sequence' required to open the lock, it is unlikely that a small child would figure out the procedure.

Weinraub says, "We have been demonstrating the ease and quickness with which the lock can be removed to thousands of gun owners and law enforcement officials around the country. The initial reply is almost always the same: 'If it's that easy to take off, anybody can do it.' After demonstrating the removal in front of their own eyes again, I then hand them the gun with the lock installed on it. I have had law enforcement officials spend over an hour with no success in removing the lock."

Out of all of the trigger locks tested, the GL200 is the only trigger lock that passed The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission testing as of February 07, 2001.  This lock has many unique features.  The lock has what we refer to as a “deadbolt” design locking mechanism.  This design is unlike the popular “ratchet” design that is commonly found on other trigger locks.  The lock also includes 3 rubber boots of different thickness to aid in the adjustment to various firearms.  Rubber coated steel pins are provided for the user to place in the lock according to their particular firearm.  The pins when properly placed on both sides of the trigger guard and behind the trigger offer additional protection.  Preventing the lock from moving and making contact with the trigger is very important according to Weinraub.
