California- Pro-Lok makes the 2nd lock to be approved by the CADOJ
Orange, Calif., May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Yesterday, a 2nd gun lock passed the tough California standards. According to Adam Weinraub, President of Pro-Lok, a leading gun lock manufacturer, “To my knowledge, Pro-Lok makes the only gun locks that have been able to pass the stringent standards that California has set out. Where our model GL200C lock passed yesterday, our GL100C model passed a couple of weeks ago. The only independent test lab in the country, authorized by the State of California to conduct the testing, performed the tests for both of our gun locks. The fact we have not one, but two locks that have passed California standards says a lot about our products and our company”. California standards go far beyond the simple tests to insure a lock will prevent accidental discharge and child access. The California standards address “unauthorized user access”. The locks are tested to withstand potential physical attacks from people with the intent to gain unauthorized access. The standards are designed to provide protection and to prevent access to the firearm whether you are a 5-yr old child, a high school teenager or a grown adult. The testing required by California includes more than the simple or routine tests, such as dropping the lock or gun. Many physical attack tests are performed using common household tools, including drills and hacksaws. The California standards will provide consumers, retailers and gun manufacturers alike with a high degree of confidence. When a gun lock or trigger lock is purchased that is “an approved California safety device” the lock will be of a high quality and will perform to the testing requirements that were designed and approved by the State. Currently, most consumers automatically assume all locks provide them a certain level of protection. Many unsuspecting consumers have received a false sense of security when purchasing certain gun locks that are currently found in stores. When a consumer purchases a gun lock, there should not be a fear or question about if that lock works or if it provides them with the desired protection and safety it was designed to provide. Weinraub comments, “right now a consumer has no idea of how good or not good a gun lock is. Without established standards, you would have to be an expert in locks to know what you are buying. There is a national push to lock-up guns. What good is it to educate gun owners to lock-up their guns if we don’t educate them on what locks are best for them to use?” Pro-Lok is preparing for the production and pricing of these new locks now. According to Weinraub, “both of these locks will be very reasonably priced”. Time is now of the essence, effective January 01, 2002, new or used firearms, cannot be sold or transferred within the State of California, without an approved California safety device. Weinraub further comments “I have concerns that there may not be a sufficient supply of locks to meet the demand, if gun manufacturers and retailers delay too long before ordering locks that meet California standards”. Pro-Lok is very proud to play an important role in meeting this need. We now look forward to the opportunity to demonstrate our products to new and existing customers alike. |
